My Wife

Currently listening to:

Artist: The Who
Album: Who's next
Song: My Wife

I've been thinking about blogging this for awhile. Usually each time I play my EyePod and when the song fires up. I love the Who and I love this song. In the past I've listen to this song and chuckled at the lyrics. But now that I'm married I find that it reminds me of "my wife".

I don't know why I think about her. Could be the title "My Wife" or maybe it's the part about needing a tank and airplane for protection... Or the sense of impending doom when the wife catches up with the singer. Funny stuff. Also when she nags me, I think of this song.

Snow time like the present

This time last week I was cruising up the 395 on my way to mammoth mountain. It was a nice drive and it went by quickly. The weather was good and there was little traffic to contend with. Which I'm thankful for. Nothing worse than being on a long drive with traffic.

This trip would be the first time this year snowboarding. One thing that I've learned is that you or rather I need to be on the slopes more often. Either that or exercise more. Getting old sucks. Reason why I bring this up because I've never had such a bad case of altitude sickness (headaches) or body ailments (cramps/lactic acid buildup) as I did on this trip. Or it could have been dehydration as it was very, very, very hot. I've never been so hot at mammoth during a skiing trip. Phew! hot. Got sun-burned and everything. Dang wife wasn't there to nag me to apply sun screen or there to hold my lip balm!

Funny thing is that I never feel these things when I snowboard. I feel great when I'm on the slopes. It's not until later that I feel it. But this was the first time that while boarding a cramp incapacitated me. of all places it was my big toe. Not my arch or calf or thigh... but my big toe!

I couldn't even do a simple toe-side turn. Or if I did it'd be an immediate face plant in the snow! But it wasn't always like that. before my toe cramped up I was really shredding the mountain. Even though it was hot, the snow wasn't that slushy or mushy. Basically pretty good. And by the time I got to my favorite place on the mountain... Ouchie. I hoped if I sat around that it would work itself out. But unfortunately it didn't. Ugh. Luckily I had my new water proof boarding pants (tho a bit too large it's worth it for the price) I was able to sit and catch the rays and soak in some sun. By the time I figured i'd never leave the mountain on my two feet (ski patrol sled...NO!) I decided to try and muscle through the pain and discomfort.

Long story short, the rest did help but not much. I went from Eagle lodge to Main lodge and had to grin and sucked up the pain. I found that if I didn't do too many turns, I'd be okay. So though my toe hurt, i was going like a bat outta hell. It wasn't until the next day that It felt a lot better.
