Newbie once more.
I remember when I was about 22 or 23 thinking it was cool that I can remember at least 10 years back. It was a milestone in life I suppose. 10 years is a significant chunk of time.
Now, it's like 20 years. And the sad thing about this is I can't even remember that far back no matter how hard I try. it's like seeing my life through a fog. I can make out the gist but only vague shapes and outlines. Nothing really vivid or clear.
I can't believe how fast that time went by. And i barely noticed until now.
One thing that I use to love doing in my younger days was to play paintball. Trying to get back into the game, I find myself getting pretty excited about it. It's been about 3-4 years since I last played and even then I could see the way the "game" has evolved. It's not the paint ball I grew up with and the equipment is light years ahead of the guns that I played with. Think flintlock versus magnetic rail gun. Such a vast differance.
Even my pride and joy (68 Automag) is no longer among the "top guns" of the field. in fact the company barely has a presence among today's guns. I'm told it has to do with patents but when I told my cousin I had an automag he said, "What's that"... Uh, only the premiere paintball gun in the 90's... That's when i broke down and got a calculator to do the math... That was more than 10 year's ago!
What happened between all them years from the 90's to now, 2007?... I can certainly see the evolution in the paintball game but what about me and why did I stop... Maybe when I go play again for the first time in many years this weekend I'll be able to figure it out. Or better yet maybe I'll just enjoy the moment without much introspection and have a blast.
Paintball is something else. No matter how skilled one becomes, me and my bros had a saying... "newbies once more". The jitters, feelings of nervousness, the unexpected ways people act, total chaos and uncontrollability in your surroundings and people, etc. would make anybody feel like a newbie again.
I'll try and remember to get some thoughts down after I get back from Paintballing this weekend. should be fun. got a new air system, sewed my button back on my pant, found my shirt and next all i have to do is find my bandannas.
Ready to rock, I hope this newbie still has a couple of tricks in my bag to pop some snot nose punk. I may not be flashy or over the top but I hope I am effective enough to still be competitive.
