What! Again?
Fricken (or as in battlestar galatic-ese... Frackin') MTA.
So the news is full of the word that the MTA refused the contract that they've been working on. Me, I want to know the terms that they are objecting to. They even said that the union member turnout for voting was the largest it has ever been! Two thirds... Whatever that number is... was the highest turnout ever for a vote.
Now me, I say enough. Start imposing "term" limits to being able to work as a unionized MTA member. Let somebody else reap the benefits of the preverbial "lotto" of the City workers. Have a spin at the till, take part of the dole, etc.. I say a public service job should not be a life long job. Entry level, then you are to move on to the private sector. Like how it was intended to be. You are not suppose to get rich by being a civil "servant". It's a frackin "service" job. You shouldn't be getting paid as much as a doctor, lawyer, or engineer! Think more along the lines of service... like starbucks, mac donalds, target.
I've been looking at the wages that different civil type servents get paid (the bureau of labor statistics) and I find it disturbing that some of the highest paid wages are for these civil servents. Why is that? The health benefits plus retirement packages alone are unheard of nowerdays in the private sector. And they say they are being treated unfairly? If they started posting notices of replacement workers or "scabs" in union-ese you'd get people lining up around the block and then some.
And now the media is putting in the air the potential for another strike. An illegal strike I might add. Yeah, I'd like to see that happen. It's as if people aren't pissed off enough as it is.
FRACK them. Don't run the trains. Put platforms down so we can at least use the rail lines and don't run the trains. For the most part the tunnels are covered. One side for bikes, one side for walking. MTA, if you aren't going to move the trains get your fat ass out of the way and let somebody else do what you won't.
Gosh I dislike the MTA.
